L'viv excursions Around region excursions Galician towns The invention, which turned the history of mankindThis story happened in 1853, when workers of Lviv pharmacy "Under the Golden star" -Ignacy Lukasiewicz and Johann Seh doing distillation and purification of crude oil, invented kerosene. In December of the same year scientists received a patent for its production. And then Johan Seh opened oil enterprise in Lviv, which now continues the tradition of Lviv oil plant. Ignacy Lukasiewicz continued experiments with kerosene. The base of it was the oil lamp, he tried to apply invented substance as fuel for lighting. The first attempts were ended by powerful explosions. So they start to work with tinsmith Adam Bratkowski, who developed the design of the first kerosene lamp; he improved light pressure regulation device and a glass cover. The lamp became safer and worked without soot. First light was like oil lamp, but had more tank, made of thick plates, and the upper part was made of mica. Now, you can see this original lamp in "drugstore-museum" on the Market Square. We
can see this kerosene lamps, which faithfully illuminated buildings and
streets for decades, in the interior of the restaurant "Kerosene

we can see over 200 lamps, which were created in the the last century
and there are pictures of various lamps with brief information about them.
